Hollywood comes to Melbourne - Pet Photography

Lesley O'Donnell - Wednesday, July 30, 2014

As his name would suggest, Hollywood is a fortunate pooch.

He lives a privileged lifestyle with his devoted mum Jennie in a glamorous apartment that enjoys sweeping views over the Melbourne city skyline.

Everyone who meets this attractive honey-coloured Cavoodle with his white trimmings is immediately drawn to him. This suits Hollywood well as he laps up all the affection and attention bestowed upon him.

Adored by Jennie’s friends, family and work colleagues he is also popular at his local dog park. There he is always greeted enthusiastically by his fellow hounds and their families. Still a puppy, he exerts boundless energy running around at the speed of a lightning bolt during his playtime. However, there always comes a point when he sits in front of Jennie exhausted from all his activity and looks up at her with pleading eyes to take him home for a little catch-up snooze.

However, this adorable little personality is no lay-a-bout and goes to work everyday. There he has an important role; meeting and greeting guests at Birches Serviced Apartments in East Melbourne. This accommodation is pet friendly so it is fitting that Hollywood is the company director and can show the visiting dogs how to behave appropriately while staying over.

This is a great spot to stay if you want a weekend in the city with your own beloved cat or dog. Be sure to say that Lesley from Pet Shots Photography recommended Birches to you and that you would love to meet Hollywood.

German Shepherd Lives the Good Life

Lesley O'Donnell - Tuesday, April 08, 2014

You have to be impressed by sons who give their mother something she will really value.

I was genuinely touched when I learnt that Christina’s boys had gifted her funds towards a pet photography session with her beloved German Shepherd Max. So thoughtful and considered.

Of course I was also thrilled that she chose Pet Shots Photography as the studio for the assignment.

Christina describes her gentle giant as a dog for all places.

He does indeed enjoy a life full of variation rather than one with a predictable routine.

His early years were spent as a city dog living in a large apartment; an exciting environment full of changing sights, sounds and smells to thrill his senses. During this period he also spent his days hanging out (or perhaps even helping out) at the family business headquarters.

Max rarely spends his weekends in the city though, as he regularly joins his devoted family at their country property. A perfect lifestyle option that offers him the chance to run free and swim in the dam; one of his favourite activities.

These days 7 year old Max resides comfortably in a grand period home in an inner city suburb. His walks with Christina around the tree lined streets now bring him into contact with suburban curiosities such as cats and other dogs. However, Max is not so keen on others of his own species, preferring to keep the company of his two legged companions.

This intelligent dog with a happy temperament endears himself with his loyalty, cheekiness and innocence. His approach to life seems to be just to enjoy it.

Pet Photography Melbourne - St Bernards

Lesley O'Donnell - Thursday, September 05, 2013

Friday and Scarlett are magnificent St Bernards who are sometimes not aware of their size and how it determines what is appropriate behaviour. Humourously, when Scarlett was younger she tried to occupy the lap of someone when their smaller breed dog vacated the position.

These two much loved dogs usually reside in Brisbane but are having a hiatus in Melbourne for the year with pet parents Kathy and Ian. When I photographed these two Kathy was keen to incorporate locations that spoke of Melbourne. I think we succeeded with the street scene featuring a grand Victorian era home, a stately wrought iron fence and a hibernating tree.

Friday is the older of the two and is very, very laid back in her nature. Her favourite pastime is to just chill with her human companions. She is loyal and protective and demonstrated this wonderfully when she once tried to prevent Kathy and Ian’s nephew, who has special needs, from going into the ocean for a swim. Very fitting for a dog that was originally bred as a rescue dog.

Affectionate Scarlett loves to please and is absolutely mortified if she is reprimanded. She is still full of puppy playfulness and adores going for walks to explore her temporary urban neighbourhood.

This breed of dog historically lived in cold climate countries. Recently Friday and Scarlett were introduced to the snow and apparently took to it as if it was where they belonged. It would have been fun to watch.
